Physical Education

Physical Education, Movement and Dance lessons for nursery children take place barefoot in the hall.   The nursery staff will advise you when the children will begin PE lessons.  Children will be required to come to nursery dressed in their PE clothes -  plain navy shorts and plain white T-shirt for these activities.

SOME SUGGESTIONS OF THINGS YOU CAN DO AT HOME WITH YOUR CHILD

  1. Talk to them, listen to them and answer their questions.
  2. Regularly share books, both story and information. Ask questions about what they have read.  Talk about the pictures.
  3. Visit the local library regularly.
  4. Read aloud to them; let them see you reading.
  5. Teach them a variety of nursery and other rhymes.
  6. Help them to hold a pencil properly once they start to use one.
  7. Provide a variety of paper and mark making materials to make marks/patterns on.
  8. Praise and encourage their early efforts at drawing and patterning.
  9. Let them see you writing in a variety of situations.
  10. Play board games to help with counting, turn-taking and number recognition.
  11. Look for different numbers in everyday situations.
  12. Help with the using of scissors to cut correctly and then be able to follow simple straight lines and then along curved ones.
  13. Encourage and help them to become independent, dressing, toileting etc.
